Unlike other pieces of jewellery , ring size is important when buying a new ring , and with our increasingly virtual shopping habits, many of us don't have the option to try before we buy. So how can you make sure you buy a ring from Majorica that fits you perfectly? By measuring your ring size, of course. It's easy with our tips and tricks.
How to find the perfect ring size?
The problem with finding the 'perfect' ring size is the fact that our finger sizes constantly fluctuate due to a number of factors, such as our diets, our exercise levels and even the day's weather forecast, making it difficult to get an exact estimate.
However, as a general rule (or finger!), a ring should simply fit comfortably, neither too tight nor too loose. The idea is that the ring will never fall off, but can slide over your knuckle with a little pressure.
Methods for measuring ring sizes
There are a couple of different methods you can use to ensure you get the perfect ring size fit – some require tools, some don’t. And while most of these options only work if you’re measuring your own ring size, there are ways to measure other people’s ring sizes, if you want to buy a ring without your partner finding out!
The only thing you'll need at your disposal, for almost all methods, is this ring size chart (the measurement is calculated using the inner diameter of the ring).
Use a strip of paper
If you don't have access to a ring size chart, you can download and print your own ring sizer paper strip, which wraps around your finger like a tape measure, giving you an accurate measurement of your ring size without the need for you to do any calculations.
Use a piece of string or thread
Another easy way to measure ring size is with a piece of thread or dental floss . All you have to do is take the thread and wrap it around your finger, at the point where you want to wear the ring.
Next, take a pen and mark the point where the string overlaps, sliding the string back from your finger and laying it flat along a measuring tape to accurately measure the millimeters. This digit can then be compared to the ring size chart and voila, you have your ring size.
Top tip:
Are you using the paper strip or string method? Keep in mind that you need to be very careful not to pull the strip/string too tight or too loose, otherwise your measurements may not be accurate, and you'll be left with a ring that doesn't fit right!
Wear rings that fit you well
If you have a ring that already fits you perfectly, put it to good use! Line it up with any circle on the ring size chart that seems ideal, and this should be a pretty good indicator of your ring size.
This is a great option if you're trying to sneakily measure the ring size of someone you want to gift without them knowing. They might ask if you wrap a piece of string around their finger, but if you can subtly borrow one of their rings while they're not wearing it and line it up with the ring sizing chart, it'll likely go unnoticed!
Buy a ring sizer
If you want another option that doesn't require using a ring size chart and are looking for the most effective way to measure your ring size, why not purchase your own ring sizer?
They tend to come in the form of a mini plastic measuring tape that you place over your finger, and are usually very affordable and available to buy online. It's something that's always handy to have at home for future testing, as your ring size is likely to change as you get older, so you won't have to bother with getting it professionally resized.

Warm up your hands before measuring your ring size
Cold weather will cause your fingers to shrink, which means a ring that fits well when you're cold may be too tight to wear once you warm up.
Try to get your fingers to average body temperature before attempting to measure your ring size, and take into account the climate you live in. If you live in a cold country but measure your fingers while on vacation in the heat, the measurement won't work. Don't be exact!
And remember; the perfect fit is not too tight, nor too loose .
Having summer rings and winter rings
If your body is the type that fluctuates with the changing seasons, then it might be an idea to have one ring size for the winter months and another for the summer months, to ensure that you never have the problem of a ring that slips out and can get lost, or a ring that is too tight to remove.

Always take into account the size of the band
